Joo Lee (Music ’01)
Joo Lee is an LA-based cellist who loves to balance music and life. She performs with many ensembles in Los Angeles such as Delirium Musicum and Brightwork, and in various orchestras including Riverside Lyric Opera, San Bernardino Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Riverside Orchestra, Opera Santa Barbara, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, and LA Opera. Joo has been involved in recordings for TV shows and movies including Family Guy, American Dad, the Star Trekseries, Onward, and The Call of the Wild.
Joo has been teaching for over 25 years, and currently holds the faculty position at ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥(IAA) and the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ program as well as Malibu High and Middle Schools. In summers, she also joins Montecito Music Festival in Thousand Oaks. She has been invited to give masterclasses in various cities, and to serve as a judge for numerous competitions including SYMF and ASTA. As a board member of Los Angeles Violoncello Society for over 15 years, she’s been serving to develop and help growing young cellists in the community, and she currently serves as the Vice President and Treasurer. In her free time, Joo enjoys visiting national parks, hiking, and running. She received honors at Juilliard Preparatory, BM from the New England Conservatory, and MM from the University of Southern California. A proud alumna of IAA and ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ Program, Joo values the foundation it gave her as a young artist. Joo currently lives in South Pasadena with her family.
